Latest unit completes at popular Derby industrial park

Stephen George + Partners (SGP) is celebrating the completion of the latest unit at Infinity Park, Derby, the East Midlands’ premier advanced manufacturing and logistics location. Working with end user Star Micronics, SGP has designed a bespoke 24,050 sqft workshop with two-storey offices, a training showroom, and external works including car parking and HGV access.

Says Chris Webster, Studio Director at SGP: “Star Micronics is relocating from Raynesway and our design has been defined by their operational requirements, accommodating specific assembly and maintenance processes.”

The client required a high level of quality office accommodation, and SGP used curtain walling and contrasting cladding to address the prominent corners of the site, providing an active frontage to the site entrance. Areas of ribbon glazing are utilised to create light and flexible office spaces, which overlook the car parking, providing added security.

The simple palette of materials is broken into three main colour ways to visually minimise the height and length and is enhanced with careful attention to detail and composition of cladding to provide an elegant finish. The distinctive colour and the projection of cladding reinforces key features such as the main entrance.

The building will be surrounded by soft landscaping including native trees and hedgerows, bulb and ornamental planting and species rich meadow areas.

Infinity Park Derby is a unique collaboration between Derby City Council, the Harper Crewe Estate, Rolls-Royce and developers IPD LLP, Wilson Bowden and Peveril Securities, and is located near to the existing manufacturing facilities of Rolls Royce, Toyota, JCB and Alstom. The main contractor for the scheme was Wilten Construction.
