SGP continues success with second unit at Symmetry Park Kettering

IM02 - Unit 1 Elevated

Stephen George + Partners (SGP) is celebrating the start on site of the second unit at Symmetry Park, Kettering, a new, regionally significant warehouse and distribution centre for Tritax Symmetry.  When complete, Symmetry Park, Kettering will deliver over two million square feet of quality logistics space. Having masterplanned the site and completed the first unit in February, SGP will be working with contractor Buckingham Group to deliver the next unit, a 502,304 sqft warehouse with internal offices, two Hub offices, gatehouse, service yard, and car parking.

Explains Lee Wong, Studio Director at SGP: “We have worked with Tritax Symmetry on this development, drawing up the masterplan and achieving the necessary planning permissions from Kettering Borough Council and North Northamptonshire Council for Units 1 to 3. Our design maximises the space on site to deliver a flexible selection of quality units to accommodate a range of occupiers in a coherent and cohesive development.”

The unit is a cross dock configuration with a haunch height of 18m, 8 level access doors and 96 dock doors. The internal office occupies the first and second floors, over an undercroft.

SGP’s design follows the Tritax Symmetry blueprint, using scale, colour, symmetry, detailing and material selection to create practical, contemporary architecture. Neutral grey shades soften the building into its background whilst ribbed and flat composite cladding panels and built-up profiled cladding systems are laid horizontally and vertically, adding texture and breaking down the scale of the structure.

All new Tritax Symmetry buildings are net zero carbon in construction, and this unit is also aiming for a minimum of BREEAM “Excellent” and an EPC rating A. Currently 17% of the roof area will have PVs panels, but SGP’s design allows for the full roof to be covered, if the tenant requires it.

The site will be carefully landscaped to minimise visual impact and add to the ecological resources of the area.

The unit is due to reach practical completion in the Spring 2024.
