Halifax Bus Station Shortlisted for 2025 Construction News Awards

We’re thrilled to announce that Halifax Bus Station has been shortlisted for the 2025 Construction News (CN) Awards in the Low Carbon Project of the Year category.
The redevelopment of Halifax Bus Station is a remarkable project that sets the standard for low-carbon transport infrastructure in the UK. It is more than just a bus station; it is a blueprint for sustainable urban mobility that delivers significant operational and embodied carbon reductions while improving the experience for passengers and the wider community.
The project brings together innovation, environmental responsibility, and heritage preservation. Key features include a wildflower green roof that enhances biodiversity and insulation, photovoltaic panels generating clean renewable energy, fully electric heating and ventilation systems, and future-proofed infrastructure ready to support electric buses. The station also promotes active travel through secure cycle storage and better walking and waiting facilities. These elements directly support West Yorkshire’s ambition to reach net-zero carbon by 2038.
Beyond the environmental benefits, the redevelopment maximises social value through a strong focus on skills development, community engagement, and investment in the local economy.
Congratulations to everyone involved and we look forward to attending the CN Awards ceremony in London on Thursday 10 July, as guests of Willmott Dixon.
