SGP is celebrating the new year by welcoming Alexander Johnstone as the practice’s new Principal Designer in the interior design team. Having previously worked on national and international projects for clients such as Disney, Facebook and Google, Alex will be based at SGP’s London office and will be taking on interiors projects across the full range of SGP sectors.

Explains Alex: “I am excited about joining a practice that is committed to sustainable growth and putting the client at the heart of the design process. I have developed great respect for Muhammad Khan, having worked with him previously, so joining SGP’s London office, with its focus on developing new opportunities, was an easy decision. I’m looking forward to collaborating with both current and new clients and pushing SGP’s cross-sector interior design expertise.”

James Nicholls, Managing Partner at SGP, said: “Interiors is becoming a major growth focus for SGP and we are seeing increased enquiries across all sectors. Alex’s appointment will not only allow growth in our interiors capability but also the ability to realise new opportunities within London and the south east as our Worship Street-based team continues to grow. We welcome Alex to the team.’

Having graduated from the University of Greenwich with an MArch Architecture, Alex developed his skills and technical expertise in award-winning practices such as Gensler, Benoy, M Mosser Associates. Alex worked on creative and forward thinking projects such as Disney in Warsaw and WPP campus London, nurturing his passion for interior design with hybrid architectural and interior design roles.

Continues Alex: “I love the faster pace of interior design, developing schemes that are not only beautiful to look at but also meet the forever evolving needs of the people who use them. Having been involved in the architecture of buildings, I think that has given me an understanding of how interiors and exteriors should fit seamlessly together and work in harmony to support the needs of its inhabitants, as well as delivering long-term benefits for the client.”

He has built a strong, local and international network of specialists and suppliers in the design industry, collaborating with different personalities from different backgrounds to excel in working together to achieve a common goal. Holding a holistic view towards sustainability, Alex has gained experience in applying BREEAM and the WELL Building Standard to workplace interiors.

Concludes Alex: “I am looking forward to developing my career and expertise with SGP, particularly using my leadership skills to support the talented and creative interiors team. I will also be getting involved in SGP’s community outreach activities, such as the Better Buildings programme, and I’m excited to share my knowledge and offer the next generation more opportunities to learn about and shape the environment around them.”
