Inspiring Futures: Students Explore Architecture at SGP

As part of SGP’s Better Buildings Programme, we recently welcomed 25 Year 10 students from Saint Martin’s Catholic Academy to our Leicester office for a hands-on, immersive experience exploring careers in architecture. We were also delighted to welcome 20 Year 9 students from Humphrey Perkins, part of the Lionheart Educational Trust, for a truly collaborative and inspiring day.
Delivered in collaboration with Unbox Your Future, and the Leicester and Leicestershire Careers Hub (https://llep.org.uk/ean/), the event offered students a practical and engaging insight into the world of architectural design. Throughout the day, the students worked to plan, design, and present their own sustainable building concepts, gaining a real-world insight of the creative and technical skills that underpin a career in architecture.
The day featured a mix of design challenges, presentation and communication skills workshops, and discussions with professionals about career pathways in architecture and the built environment.
We were delighted to see how confidently and creatively the students approached each task, bringing energy and curiosity to every challenge. By engaging them in purposeful, career-relevant activities, the day helped demystify the profession and sparked genuine interest in the built environment sector.
“The day definitely prompted some of the students to consider a role within architecture in the future. We would love to work with SGP again!” Yvette Tones, Career Leader at St Martins Catholic Academy.
“I really enjoyed todays experience! It seems like a great job and a really fun environment. It has made me consider having Architecture as a job.” Sophie, Year 10.
A special thank you to Jay Silva from SGP for co-ordinating, and Fiona Romankiw and Jonathon Hillen for their involvement, in the event and helping create such a memorable and impactful experience for all involved.
Our Better Buildings Programme is a key part of SGP’s social value and education outreach strategy, aimed at helping young people understand the role architecture plays in shaping a more sustainable future.
