Virtual Reality Day with Peter James Homes

With more house builders requesting CGi’s and a higher level of interaction with 3D models, Peter James Homes took the lead in presenting a series of VR days for their staff in collaboration with SGP. The aim was to introduce the technology across the company and showcase several of our projects, delivered to them through Revit, and to witness them in a virtual environment via an HTC Vive Pro VR Headset.

We’re always extremely happy to show visitors around Waterfront House, our new office at Grove Park, Enderby, but this group were particularly exciting. As a body of ex (and some current) professionals whose group motto is “looking at modern architecture, design and manufacture”, we were eager to introduce them to our self-designed office. Our BIM Manager, James Blood, then took over with an introduction to BIM, taking on board to the group’s interest in manufacturing and giving an appreciation of how the process improves the design and construction of a building.

SGP Celebrates Double Appointment to BIM Champions

Stephen George + Partners (SGP) is delighted to announce that James Blood has been appointed as Business Manager on the Committee of buildingSMART’s UK and Ireland chapter. In addition, James has also become a member of BSi’s B/555 committee whereby he has been nominated as their UK expert on product data. James will be taking on these roles in addition to his normal work as SGP’s BIM Manager. Explains James: “This is an incredible double honour. I’ve worked in the BIM field for over 10 years and have seen how the use of technology and data has developed and expanded during that time. It is both exciting and humbling to hold these important roles at a time when the digital landscape is accelerating towards new ideas and applications, such as ‘Smart Asset Management’ & ‘Digital Twins’. B/555 is the BSI standard for construction design, modelling and data exchange, whose committee oversees and manages developments around digital transformation in construction, as well as voting on the standards themselves. With many standards being driven into the global marketplace, James’ appointment as UK expert means he will be promoting and representing the UK’s position on the development of BIM standards on the international stage. buildingSMART is a global not-for-profit organisation whose aim is to modernise construction using digital, structured data, to improve efficiencies and minimise waste. LUSEP was Designed by Stephen George + Partners (SGP) and funded by Leicestershire County Council.Stephen George + Partners are part of the design and construction team to deliver the office building project as a BIM Level 2 Project with BIM having been a requirement from RIBA stage 3 with the data drops occurring from RIBA stage 3 onwards.

Plot 4020 DP World London Gateway
November 2020
SGP-designed warehouse facility at the London Gateway Logistics Park, the UK’s most advanced deep-sea container terminal and distribution park. The project was delivered using principals of collocation and BIM Level 2. Working on behalf of client DP World London Gateway, SGP designed and delivered Plot 4020B, a new 7,218sq.m warehouse facility with ancillary offices and first floor plant area. SGP’s plans for the vacant 1.78ha site, formerly part of an oil refinery, included associated external works such as hard and soft landscaping, drainage and effluent treatment works.
