BMW Group (UK) Ltd, Prologis Park

Pineham, UK

Designed and constructed to meet the BMW Group’s specific requirements, construction work started on site in April 2011 and reached practical completion in January 2012.

The new facility is the BMW Group’s regional distribution centre from which parts are delivered to BMW, MINI, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars and BMW motorcycle dealers throughout the UK and Ireland.

The facility was designed using the new Cerberus roof, an innovation that has reduced the height of the building and has improved its visual impact while maximising internal space. The building itself, which is both energy efficient and cost-effective to run, has achieved an EPC’A’ (CO2 Index 23) rating and BREEAM ‘Excellent’ accreditation.

Developer Prologis UK Ltd has also measured and reduced the embodied carbon in the structure and fabric of the building and it has mitigated 110% of unavoidable carbon emissions by investing in a verified avoiding deforestation programme and a sustainability project for four local primary schools. As these measures demonstrate, developers can follow a strategic approach to the management, measurement and mitigation of embodied carbon.
