Loughborough Grammar School Physics Building Shortlisted for Award

26th April 2013

The Loughborough Grammar School Physics Building project has been selected as a finalist at the LABC East Midlands Regional Building Excellence Awards 2013 to be held in May.

The LABC awards, which recognises good building practice, are acknowledged as a benchmark within the construction industry with winning projects automatically qualifying for the National Building Excellence Awards in November.

The existing CLASP building was stripped back to the steel frame; sections of the first floor were removed to enable new stairs to be inserted in order to reorganise the circulation to make it safe to operate; new teaching laboratories were constructed within the frame and the whole was clad with a new external wall of insulated render and curtain walling, made distinctive by the use of coloured glass panels.

The project was successful in achieving extremely high levels of user satisfaction, completing within budget and six weeks ahead of programme.
