Healthcare projects in the spotlight

3rd October 2018

Healthcare projects on which Stephen George + Partners’ specialist healthcare team have worked have been the recipients of a number of prestigious awards.

Following Stephen George + Partners’ recent acquisition of healthcare architects Enable By Design, the team’s work on these award-winning projects further reinforces the practice’s proven track record in creating high-quality healthcare and social care environments for NHS Trusts, Framework Partners, developers and senior care providers across the UK. Led by Steve Batson at Stephen George + Partners’ Leeds office, the healthcare team bring with them decades of specialist healthcare knowledge and expertise, including working with various forms of contracts and procurement routes.

The award-winning projects include:

Bradford Royal Infirmary, New Medical Wing

– Winner: Y&H LABC Building Excellence Awards – Best Public Service Building category

The £28m new wing is a continuation of the Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s work to improve patient experience and provides world-class facilities for elderly care, children’s services, a state-of-the-art intensive care unit with increased single-room provision and a retail concourse.

Baghill House Health and Wellbeing Centre, Pontefract

– Winner: Pontefract Civic Society Commercial & Civic Award

The new outpatient and community facility accommodates outpatient services previously provided from five community sites. The Civic Society award recognises the Centre’s calm, welcoming environment and its rejuvenation/rehabilitation qualities, for those who it is designed to support, as well as Baghill House itself with its integration back into the local community.

Fieldhead Hospital Non-Secure Unit, Wakefield

– Winner of Construction Excellence Yorkshire and Humber Award for Integration and Collaborative Working

– Winner of CIOB Committed to Construction in Humber and West Yorkshire Collaborative Working Award

The healthcare team were commissioned under P21+ through Interserve and the Trust to provide a contemporary designed state-of-the art Non-Secure development. The £16.8 million Unity Centre incorporates adult male and female wards, an older people’s ward, a psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU), and high quality activity, leisure, eating and outdoor spaces.

Steve Batson, Stephen George + Partners Director and healthcare lead, says: “The healthcare team is immensely proud to have been able to work collaboratively with the client and project teams on these award-winning projects. It has also been incredibly satisfying to be in a position to deliver quality environments that you know will enhance patient experience and improve recovery outcomes.

“These award-winning buildings are testament to the healthcare team’s years of experience and sector know-how and, as part of a dynamic growing practice, we know we have the support to expand our service offer for existing and new clients. We’re looking forward to designing and building more exemplary healthcare projects and, of course, hoping they go on to win more awards!”
